October 7 – From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., I will be at the Capital Bookfest '06 at the Boulevard at the Capital Centre, located in Largo Maryland!  I'm excited because writers who I’ve been following, reading and learning from for years will be there. Lucille Clifton, Edward P. Jones, Lori Bryant Woolridge, Omar Tyree, BernNadette Stanis and Michelle Singletary to name a few.  Shoot, not to brag but I just had lunch with 2, 3 maybe even 4 of them – Marita Golden, Celeste Norfleet, Wil Haygood, and Karyn Langhorne to name a few (and I'm taking literary license to use the word lunch liberally – lunch could mean dinner, breakfast, partying with or talking on the phone).  Man, there are going to be so many good people there I might have to brush off my stalk-a-writer skills. And you know I got skills.

 

I will have a booth at the Capital Bookfest – and for the first five people who visit me and mention this email (or blog entry) there will be a prize. I am the queen of fabulous prizes.

 

At the book festival, I will also be on a panel discussing publishing and my collection of poetry All Black Girls Ain’t Got Rhythm inside of the Borders bookstore – tentatively from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. So please come by and see me – I promise I won’t persuade you to buy a book (if you bought one already).
